A True Horselover
Â

Â
I think I may have been born with a special gene for loving horses. My first memories of really falling in love with horses was when I was about 10. I don’t have many memories before then so I am not sure if they where on my mind at a younger age. I have always just loved everything about horses. I love the way they look and they way they smell. Every horselover will say they love the smell of the manure and I do. I almost cry at every horse movie, even the happy ones.Just the site of a horse galloping can bring me to tears. I am not sure if that can be understood by someone who is not a horselover. You may just think I am a loon if you don’t already have this passion for this animal.
I was introduced to the english riding style when I was 13 and would find every chance I could to ride. My mom gave me one of the best gifts of my life when she started me with riding lessons. I hung around the stables as much as I could. I had to ride a public bus to ge to the riding facility. Even at that time it wasn’t the safest thing to do in Los Angeles. I didn’t care. As long as I got to go to the stables I was happy.
Though I had been riding for many years of my life I didn’t get my first horse until I was 28 years old. A friend of mine gave me her beautiful Arabian mare, Taxi. She was a bit of a handful but she also taught me a lot. I had her for a few years and then was given another horse, Diamond. She is a beautiful Standardbred mare that is just the right fit for me. We also have another horse that is really my daughters. He is an older mixed breed that has been great for our whole family.
I attended a Pat Parelli conference a couple a while back and it has changed my whole outlook on horsemanship. I am now trying to teach my horse the 7 games. I had been approaching certain issues the wrong way and now I am deterimed to be a better horse owner.
