Heed Your Horse?

Posted by Mona

I was just over at EverRider and read an interesting post about ground work training.  I believe that ground training is essential to having a good relationship with your horse.  Like with most animals the more time you spend with them the better they will be for you.  But if a busy life prevents you from spending more time with your horses you can at least make the most of the time you do spend with them.  As I mentioned in my “Walk Your Horse Like a Dog” article, ground work can also strenghten the bond with your horse.  All the more reason to get working on your ground work.

Heeding seems to be similar to Monty Roberts join-up and John Lyons training techniques but less complicated. The idea is that you are communicating with body language. Horse communicate with eachother primarily through body language which makes it important for us humans to learn as much of their language as we can.

Kelly, the blog author of EveryRider explains the horse heeding steps clearly and I plan to try this on my mare the next time I get a chance. Visit the EveryRider horse blog for more detailed information about horse heeding.
