Equestrian 2.0 - Horses and Cell Phones

Posted by Mona

If you have never heard of Web 2.0 then the title of this post will probably not amuse you. Web 2.0 is basically the Internet upgrade. Web 2.0 is user-inspired content and social interaction. So when we speak of using cell phones in the presence of our horses I think this type of activity should be called Equestrian 2.0.

Equestrian 2.0 has made it possible for those of us riding to either spook our horses with ringing gadgets and/or hopefully be able to contact help in an emergency. An accomplished Equestrian 2.0 rider can use modern gadgets with out loosing balance or falling of the horse. They have trained their horses to welcome the many different ring possibilities that our fellow Equestrian 2.0 riders might have on their cell phones and other such gadgets.

So if you haven’t already entered the world of the Equestrian 2.0 then now may be the time. Start playing annoying ringing sounds and theme songs to various popular songs to your horse. Make sure you accustom your horses to bright colored gadgets and dangling wires.

The other option is to stay in the dark ages of horseback riding and leave all your gadgets behind for a nice long ride only the sounds of nature and the steady hoof beats. I personally opt to keep my cell phone with ringer off in case of an emergency.

Whatever you choose to do as an Equestrian 2.0 please be sure you use sense, safety and be courteous to other riders.

I wonder if we will ever be able to ride our horse while surfing the net with our laptops. That would be a sight to see.

  1. I have a friend who has a cd with all kinds of noises on it she plays for all of her horses so that they get used to different sounds. But it sure is funny to walk into her barn when that thing is playing.

  2. Oh dear. I haven’t yet seen someone talking on their cell phone on the back of a horse, but I’m sure its just a matter of time. Thanks for making me laugh!

  3. @Mikael - That’s funny. I guess if your horse really needs to get used to strange sounds that would be the way to do it.

@Donna - I am glad you like the article :)
